Pastor William Augustus Purvis
Reverend William Augustus Purvis is the
Senior Pastor of the Trumpet of Zion
Tabernacle in the heart of North
Philadelphia. As pastor, he is dedicated to
making an impact on those in the church,
the local community, and the surrounding
communities.
Prior to serving at the Trumpet of Zion, he
attended the Wayland Temple Baptist
Church, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It
was there that he was licensed and later
ordained to preach the Gospel. While at
Wayland Temple, in addition to teaching
Bible Study, he attended the Center for
Urban Theological Studies (C.U.T.S.) where
he received degrees in Biblical Studies and
in Urban Ministry Leadership. It was there
that he identified the vision that God has
given him, and in 2000, he transferred his
church membership from Wayland Temple
to the Trumpet of Zion Tabernacle, where
he currently serves.
Pastor Purvis recognizes that a successful
ministry starts at home. He and his wife Shirley have been married for more than 50 years. In addition to his
family, he serves as role model and mentor for many who have found themselves incarcerated, and in trouble
with God and man. As part of his vision, he is active in rebuilding and restructuring families through prison
ministry. As a result, he is the Director of H.O.P.E. Prison Ministry where for more than two decades he has
visited several institutions on a regular basis: Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility (weekly), Philadelphia
Industrial Correctional Center (bi-weekly), State Correctional Institution – Phoenix (monthly), and State
Correctional Institution – Chester (semiannually). He is also the founder of “A New Start,” a program that
provides shelter and spiritual insight for those recently released from prison. Through this program, individuals
are encouraged, and instructed in growth toward godliness, which create better communities. Pastor Purvis
loves his family, he loves ministry, and most of all he loves the Lord!
Assistant Pastor
Reverend Shayne E. Moore is committed to helping others mature in the Lord through dynamic teaching
and practical application of the Word of God. As an active member in the church and the community, he
is heavily involved in the church’s Prison Ministry where he provides instruction for new Christians as well
as those seasoned in Christ to grow spiritually on a weekly basis.
At an early age, he realized the call that God has placed on his life and attended the Deliverance
Evangelistic Bible Institute to further his understanding and application of the Word of God. Years later,
when he responded to God’s calling he was licensed to preach and later ordained at the Trumpet of Zion
Tabernacle. It is there that he currently serves as the Assistant Pastor and Director of Christian Education.
Rev. Moore attended both Drexel University and Western Governors University as an undergraduate,
Drexel University as a graduate, and is currently enrolled in the Northwestern Theological Seminary
where he is pursuing a Doctor of Divinity degree. While he pursued his undergraduate degree at Drexel,
he met and later married his wife Latesha and together they have a son, Christian.
He is the Founder and President of TruePraise.net, where he provides website development, hosting, and streaming for
churches to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. Community involvement include serving as a board member for Aim
For The Net, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building character and responsibility in young people in various
communities throughout the Philadelphia area, and a board member for In His Service Incorporated, a ministry developed to
disciple individuals as a way to contribute to each individual’s Spiritual Development. It is there that he serves as a role model
and mentor to troubled males, and encourages students both male and female to set goals, that nothing is impossible, and
that they can accomplish anything. He has also provided free computer training for the Rescue Find program, geared primarily
towards those who are recovering from drug addiction or incarceration, and for their families. Of all of the accomplishments
however, he encourages you to remember the most important achievement to him: the ultimate achievement of receiving
Salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord. To God be the glory!
